HOW IT WORKS ATTORNEY PORTAL
Forensic Royalty Recovery

Your royalties are sitting
unclaimed at SoundExchange.

When a label registers a recording, featured performers are not automatically added. If no Letter of Direction is filed, your 45% performer share sits in a suspense account indefinitely. We find it. Attorneys file it. You get paid.

How recovery works

Four steps from identification to payout. No upfront cost. No risk.

1

We identify the gap

Our forensic engine cross-references every recording's ISRC against SoundExchange's repertoire registry. When a commercially released track has high stream volume but no registered performer LOD, it's flagged as unclaimed. We verify the ISRC, confirm the gap, and estimate the 36-month retroactive accrual.

2

You verify your identity

We send you a secure link. You complete a quick biometric face scan on your phone — no app download required. This creates a SHA-256 cryptographic identity attestation anchored to the blockchain, replacing a notarized signature for the initial LOD filing.

Attorney files the LOD

Our partnered entertainment attorneys receive a pre-built Forensic Audit Packet: 4-page certified audit exhibit, Schedule 1 LOD form with your metadata pre-populated, and full ISRC evidence. They file the Letter of Direction with SoundExchange on your behalf.

SoundExchange releases your funds

Once the LOD is processed, SoundExchange releases the suspended performer share — typically the retroactive 36-month accrual — in the next distribution cycle. Average cycle: 45 to 90 days from filing.

FAQ

How do I know if I have unclaimed royalties?

If you have been featured on a commercially released track that has streams on Spotify, Apple Music, or other DSPs — and you never filed a Letter of Direction with SoundExchange — there is a strong chance funds are sitting unclaimed. The label registers the recording; performers must register separately. Most never do.

What is a Letter of Direction (LOD)?

An LOD is a document filed with SoundExchange directing them to pay your performer share (45% of digital performance royalties) to you. Without it, SoundExchange holds the funds in a suspense account. Filing retroactively covers up to 36 months of accrued royalties.

Is this only for featured artists or also main artists?

Both. Main artists, featured performers, and guest vocalists all have a performer share. If the ISRC was not registered with your name correctly mapped — or if you never filed an LOD — your share is unclaimed regardless of billing position.

Do I need to do anything other than the face scan?

No. After biometric verification, the attorney handles everything — packet assembly, LOD filing, and SoundExchange communication. You will be notified when funds are released.

What if the recording is already registered?

If the ISRC is already correctly registered with your performer information, there is nothing to claim and no fee is charged. Our forensic engine only flags genuine gaps confirmed by ISRC verification.
